The mysterious rock formations and underground cities of Cappadocia make this region of Turkey one the most beautiful in the world. The rich history of this site can be told through the villages, subterranean churches and fortresses that have been carved straight into the soft, porous, eerily eroded rock.

Popular activities in the region include visits to the underground cities, viewing the ancient Christian cave art, seeing the “fairy chimney” rock formations, and taking sunrise hot air balloon rides for a view of the breathtaking landscape from above.

Longhorn Run 2013

The first time I have run 10k in a long long time (if ever). My only goal was to not walk and that I accomplished.

We started off the race at 8. Beautiful weather. The sun was out and the temperature was in the mid 50s. It was fantastic, there was a DJ and the longhorn band was playing and confetti and cannons and olympians to start the race.

I started running with some friends, though after the five mile mark we began to drift apart from each other.

It was amazing to be one runner of many in support of UT. I would turn a corner and see a sea of white shirts stretching out. Maybe it was the endorphins; I don’t know how exactly to describe what I felt, but I got goosebumps.

And I had a nice discussion with one of my professors from last semester as we walked back after the run was over.

There are so many things I did as a child that I really wish I had continued or had worked harder...
